I love taking time to capture images just for myself—to play around, try new things, work on techniques and relax. This weekend I did a little bit of all of that as I wandered around Hovander Park looking for new sights and scenery. I miss the bright, warm, sunny colors of spring through fall, but winter has a stark beauty all of its own.

Visser Family | Ferndale Family Photographer
We were so blessed with a beautiful Saturday this past weekend. It made for a perfect morning for this family session. I grew up with Ashley showing horses together in 4-H. We spent our weekends showing and our summers at the Fair competing. After our senior year in high school we traveled together with our horses to Texas to start our college career at West Texas A&M. We had an awesome time being roommates for a few months—eating kettle corn every night, showing on the equestrian team, riding our horses after class and house sitting in exchange for doing laundry at house in town. We’ve both ended up back right where we came from, still enjoying horses and making our own family’s. Ashley’s family is quite bigger than mine and I sure enjoyed getting to capture them at this great time in their lives when their little girl just turned one.
Thanks so much Ashley, Todd, Koltin and Rhysse! You are beautiful family and I had a great time playing with you this weekend!

Life on the Funny Farm | Lynden Photographer
I took these photos around our place today:
-After a fabulous family session with the most adorable kids (I can’t wait to show you the pictures!!)
-After shopping at three antique stores for some awesome new baby and children session props
-After hitting up Sonic for tater tots, fry sauce and a lemon-berry slush…mmm! Now that was $2 well spent!
-After taking an hour walk with Diesel to walk off the aforementioned $2 lunch
-After stopping by the neighbors and seeing their 30 goats for sale
-After doing some serious business planning and brainstorming
-After cleaning up the disaster of packaging in my house from my gorgeous album orders
-After hearing weird noises outside and finding Rascal (who should have been in the outside paddock) had unlocked a stall door, entered the stall, knocked over the wheelbarrow that was parked in his way, went through the stall into the breezeway of the barn, opened a closed bucket lid and ate all of the miniature horses’ grain, knocked over his own closed tub of grain with approx. 40 pounds of grain and 20 pounds of salt in it and was happily munching his way through that.
It has been a day!
Meet Cowboy (below) and Cookie (above)! They are keeping Rascal company this winter so he doesn’t eat me alive from boredom. They are miniature horses and are about the sweetest, friendliest, furriest, littlest things you’ve ever seen!
Naughty, naughty Rascal…still eating!
The always handsome Diesel Lee! He just got over an icky eye infection—despite chewing his medicine bottle up so I couldn’t unscrew the cap of his eye drops. The dog is not dumb…I should have tried that when I was younger!
I love how he crosses his paws when he lays down!

Summer Snippets
I was so busy this summer I didn’t have chance to blog some of the pictures I took just to remember the wonderfulness of the season. So—here are some of my pictures, just for you!
We were blessed with so many friends, neighbors and family who shared their garden bounty with us as we could only a manage a small number of potted vegetables during the building of our house instead of the larger garden we usually grow. My husband even picked berries for me on evenings that I was busy editing pictures—I love that man! We are still enjoying these fabulous veggies and fruits as I squeezed in a few minutes of canning and freezing in between sessions and weddings. I’m having a hard time looking at these and not seriously craving summer, how about you?
Oh the beautiful light of summer—I miss that golden glow in the late afternoon!

Eric & Lisa – Engagement Session | Lynden Engagement Photographer
This Saturday I had such a great time with Lisa and Eric as we captured some engagement photos for them. These two are so great together—playful and loving and up for anything!! My favorite kind of couple! I’m so excited for their upcoming wedding in Maui—what fun we will have documenting their love in the bright, rich colors of Hawaii. Thanks so much for a great time you two—the rest of your images will be up within a week and as promised there will be some on Facebook too!
